Some mechanism for rendering cheap out of view elements.

I have these really rich html elements, and I have to virtualize them. However, I'd love it if I could render some really cheap elements for when they're out of view, like maybe just a span with some text so native search still works.

Have you tried using keepMounted prop?

Nah, we switched to virtua from native because even our unmount in React would block CPU for multiple seconds. Our elements are very rich and heavy, each one might have a couple hundred different event bindings, and there can be up to ten thousand of these elements. We need only the active elements to be rendered this way.

However, there are downsides to virtualization from performance. One of the big ones is that native search and copying all doesn't work. If we could swap out the unmounted elements with like a placeholder thats way simpler, we'd be so well off.

Just wanted to let you know I'm actually using this on my fork. I'm sure there will be some degree of performance regression due to having more elements, but it feels really nice having native search working and the ability to copy all of the text from it at once.
