Discussion: How to effectively outreach at the NOGs

During the APRICOT– IETF panel discussion, it was noted that while there is outreach from the IETF to RIRs and larger forums like NANOG, RIPE, and APRICOT, there is little engagement with individual country-level or regional NOGs. Would expanding outreach to NOGs be beneficial? Could IETF participants from these countries or regions be supported in sharing IETF updates and encouraging operator involvement?

I have long thought that we (for some version of "we") should ask ADs to please provide a few sentences on work that is happening in their areas, and which might be of interest to [[insert group here]]; presumably many / most ADs would relay this to their WG chairs for input / more text / etc.

This is something which I had started doing while on the IESG, and got some very good input for the "Operators and the IETF" presentations at NANOG & RIPE (and a few other similar events). Unfortunately I stopped doing this (AKA, my ADHD bit me :-))

I think that we should restart this, and create a "library" of material & updates for IETF participants from these countries and regions (and everywhere else!) to use. I know that a number of times I'd wanted to do some sort of outreach activity (like the NANOG track), but getting started on what to talk about can be somewhat daunting...

Excellent idea to have a way to engage with the NOGs. Is there even a central list of them by ISO country code? Maybe that is a good 1st step?

Not really -- there is the Global NOG Alliance, but (AFAIK) it doesn't maintain a list, and is more focused on Keep Ukraine Connected / fundraising for same.

There are the large, "well known", regional ones like NANOG, APRICOT, RIPE, AfNOG, LACNOG, SANOG, PacNOG, CaribNOG, etc.but then there are also many many smaller, more country specific ones.
