Next Retreat in Asia

Aim while thinking of having a retreat in APAC:

• Maximise Attendance
• Minimise Pain
• Well-connected hub with direct flights
• Announce Dates and Location early on to help with planning/budget. The best time is late-April, early-May (in between IETF plenary meetings)

Often we are do this by "do we have a host in city X". I think we could do it more like here are 3 cities that would be good, can everyone check and see if they have a way to find us a host in any of these cities. I will note some of companies (like my employer) have a lot of offices around the world and we also might just find that a local SP or company might be very happy to host us.

Analysis Google Sheet to Shortlist Cities

I looked at the sheet and updated it for my home airport. While that is PHL, sometimes the 2-hr drive to EWR is okay for a direct flight, which I can get to SIN from EWR.

Anyway - no Tokyo?

I think we need to think about potential hosts for these places. I added a new sheet for potential hosts. It would be good if I* members can look at it and fill in potential locations that they can host at. I am assuming a meeting space that fits 40 is a basic requirement for this.

Just as FYI ... you know that EKR has a script that will compute cost and travel time for each person in a set like this to a set of destinations ?

I find it extremely interesting that we don't bother going to such lengths to choose locations in North America and Europe.

@mjethanandani , as Dhruv mentioned I added the "Potential Hosts" tab and filled in a couple of items based on past experience in order to narrow down the potential cities as we probably want to avoid cities without a confirmed host. It would be great if you can share with the IESG.
