Folks have asked that we post the presentations from the workshop on our workshop website. I have added a folder to this repo containing all the presentations that were loaded into the Presentations folder on the google drive. I have added link to this folder on the website but ... This is not the most graceful way to share these presentations. Some of them are quite large and the GitHub folder does not invite visitors to download the file. Do any of you have suggestions on how we can best share these presentations?

@samuelbosch - I know you and Ward have loaded presentation on to OceanTeacher. Did you get all of them? Can people who are not members of OceanTeacher access them? If not, that is why we need them on this website as well.

@jbosch-noaa I guess that the best way to visualize my presentation is via this repository + nbviewer:

The defaults display is presentation but the user can click on the menu below and get it as notebook, code, check the kernel, view on GitHub link, or download it (in that order).

I'll set up a binder link so people can also run it online from this repo.

But admittedly it does it too silently, rather than the expected pop-up window that asks people whether to open or save.

(Implicitly what I'm thinking about here is that each presentation would be spelled out and be a link; ideally, by turning the Agenda doc into a markdown page, which I can offer to do)

Is it possible to fully open up for access your Google Drive folder that hosts the presentations? From what you've said before, I'm assuming it's not.

Also, once the presentations are uploaded into OceanTeacher, will each of them be accessible via a link that requires no log in?

@emiliom - Actually through experimentation I now think folks can access the material through OceanTeacher without logging in. That perhaps may be the best path forward. I can get up with Ward and @samuelbosch about adding the couple of missing presentations on OceanTeacher. That would save all of us some time.

Great. But bear in mind that @ocefpaf's presentation is a Jupyter notebook; it's easily viewable via the nbviewer url, as he said, but not by a user just downloading the notebook file as is.

Mae Culpa friends .... I was wrong ... you can't access the course materials without an Ocean Teacher login. That means we should still try to make the presentations easier to see on the website.

@emiliom - We can't open up the Google Folder so it is better for them to be on GitHub. Maybe that means a markdown agenda after all.

@lsetiawan and I will create a stand-alone markdown version of the agenda, that will be integrated into the web site (ie, I'll add a menu item). Then each presentation can have a link to the presentation file (or the nbviewer url, in the case of Filipe's presentation).

We'll take it from there.

@lsetiawan please go ahead and take the agenda pdf and create a no-frills markdown version (ie, no fancy formatting yet). Send the file to me via an email attachment, and I'll take the next crack.

We'll have this done by Tuesday (Monday is a holiday).

OMG! I've found a direct, easy solution to the issue of how to provide links with user-friendly behavior to the presentation files on GitHub, specially given that we have pdf, pptx and HTML files. The answer: https://rawgit.com

Here are links to three of those files, rendered via rawgit.com (kind of like what nbviewer does for notebooks on github, but more generic):

I've gone ahead and finished creating a new Agenda & Presentations page on the web site, with links to all the presentation files @jbosch-noaa loaded to the GitHub folder. The links use the https://rawgit.com scheme I mentioned (except, of course, for the nbviewer link to @ocefpaf's jupyter notebook). I also added entries to the Menu to point to this new page, and updated a section and links on the workshop.html page.

@jbosch-noaa Please take a look at some point and edit as you see fit. Seems to me there are missing presentations besides Abby's, such as ones from Ward and Maria. Plus I couldn't tell if the presentations from @bbest and Axiom should be linked to both agenda items where they had roles.

We'll keep this issue open until @jbosch-noaa is satisfied that all presentations are up and available.

Once all presentations from Google Drive are loaded in the OceanTeacher classroom then they will also be made publicly available from there.
