It can be shown that for each thick-rhomb ribbon in a tiling, there is a flower “following” that ribbon in the quintuple decomposition of the tiling.
Not all tilings have infinite thick-rhomb ribbons, but some (actually, uncountably many) do. The simplest example is the “cartwheel” tiling ((γγ')), which is also the only tiling that has two infinite thick-rhomb ribbons.
The flowers “following” the infinite thick-rhomb ribbons are also infinite (and they aren't chains because they are self-intersecting)
