There are a few sections that could be breaking.

If it can't make it pass this, then it is never initializing (software enable pin never gets pulled up, or it can't read the IRQ when the CC3k boots up) https://github.com/jiahuang/CC3000/blob/master/utility/wlan.cpp#L311

If it made it past the previous part, it shouldn't hang up on this except if there are issues with SPI transmission https://github.com/jiahuang/CC3000/blob/master/utility/wlan.cpp#L316

You'll want to check what values tSLInformation.usEventOrDataReceived and pucReceivedData are.
