Build errors

This repository will not build when using the instructions.

This is a shame, as I would like to contribute to this project. I'm not sure what to do, though, since it won't build.

My machine has Linux Mint as the OS. All requirements for build-time are installed.

If anyone has actually built this, on Linux (Debian-based), then please contact me.

Is it the complete log ?

which command did you try ? which versino did you build ?

This was the latest version, which I pulled from the official repository on GitHub.

I tried building this using:

cd JJazzLab
mvn clean install

Before this:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install openjdk-17-jdk maven

Then,

git clone https://github.com/jjazzboss/JJazzLab.git

My build failed at the SongStructure module due to missing dependencies. Specifically, Maven could not find several internal JJazzLab JARs (like importers, midimix, outputsynth, phrasetransform, etc.) in the central Maven repository.

I tried to start this again, using:

mvn clean install

Unfortunately, that failed, so I tried:

mvn install -DskipTests

This also failed, so I thought the best thing to do would be to build each module separately:

mvn install -DskipTests -rf :songstructure ... etc.

This failed, as org.jjazzlab.core:importers:jar:4.1.2 was missing.

I persisted with:

mvn clean install -U

Which also failed. So, I thought I would do:

rm -rf ~/.m2/repository/org/jjazzlab

And then start again:

mvn clean install

This produced similar failures issues. I then tried building dependencies individually:

mvn clean install -pl importers,midimix,outputsynth,phrasetransform,uiutilities,rhythmmusicgeneration,song,songcontext

This did not produce anything that worked.

Documentation issues

The documentation for JJazzLab, says clearly that it is not suitable for version 4.x. Additionally, I experienced issues with the POMs

Maybe: this repository does not work with openjdk-17-jdk maven?

I've tried everything I can think of, so I would be genuinely grateful for any advice you may have.

I could reproduce your first issue on SongStructure. In the parent pom I set jjazzlab.surefire.skipTests to true then the app built successfully.

To run the app you normally need to run maven targets nbm:cluster-app and nbm:run-platform in the application subproject. Might be easier to do this from Netbeans IDE (menu Run on the application project...).

Setting jjazzlab.surefire.skipTests to true in the parent POM did the trick — I was able to complete the build without errors. I've just installed NetBeans (for the first time, actually), so I’m happy to follow your recommendation and run the application project using the IDE’s built-in support. It seems the most straightforward way forward, especially as this is clearly how the project was designed to be handled. Once I’m more familiar with the workflow, I may look at replicating the same steps from the command line, but for now, I’ll follow your advice and use NetBeans. Appreciate your help.
