Don't know how much clearer I can be.

Joomla 3.3.6

Ran the make-pkg.sh script. it created a package that, when used, installed a small fraction of the files necessary for this, so naturally the plug-in crashed.

Added the non-installed files at the requested place.

Plug-in still crashes ("unable to load Composer autoloader").

If I have time I'll come back and do more detective work, but right now I'm too busy to mess with it, since I have to patch some other code that I need to use since this doesn't even pretend to work.

Thank you for the report -- can you compare your created package with the one from here:
https://github.com/lastpass/joomla-saml/releases

As the readme says, it was tested with Joomla 3.2.2 -- it's quite likely that things have changed in 3.3x that have broken things in the meantime.

I've tested the plugin with Joomla 3.6.
It works great with little bit of tweaking to fit my requirements.

When I run make_pkg.sh on Mac and upload the zip to my Joomla site, I get all the problems described by @Paladin.

The issue is in the make_pkg.sh script. Mac and FreeBSD do not support the -printf in find, so the simplesamlphp directory and a few other files are never added to the list of filenames in lpsaml.xml file. There's no error message when you run the make script, so it's easy to miss this detail. Joomla appears to just ignore any file not listed in the XML even though they are in the zip.

My fix was to just use the release download, but if you are interested in a cross platform solution, I'd be happy to submit a PR request.
