Direct import from HTML scripts fails

I'm trying to [use this module straight from an HTML](https://jsfiddle.net/dandv/gtac1sp3/) file ([a la preact](https://preactjs.com/guide/v10/getting-started#no-build-tools-route)), but it fails with a lot of errors. Is this a known issue (due to the deps)?
