Hello, I think this is the expected iOS behavior when the microphone is used with the audio session category .playAndRecord. I believe this is intentional by Apple for privacy reasons, as other apps show the same behavior.

By default, if no microphone is published and you are only subscribing to audio, the audio session category .playback will be used. In that case, I believe you can lower the volume to zero.
