Question: is it possible to switch to windows by their title?

Hi,

I've been running xfce for decades and was using https://karl-voit.at/2022/10/28/window-teleporting/ lately to get a keyboard shortcut, type a few characters I remember of a window title (not application!) and then switch to that window after confirming.

While trying to re-create that experience with GNOME 48 (Trixie), I stumbled over this project.

Is it possible to get the switch-to-title-by-search via the usual Gnome search (pressing the Windows key)?

As far as I understand, your tool enables the part where a specific window is raised and given focus.

So basically my question boils down to: can you give me some advice how to query the list of available windows so that I may feed it into my rofi query (or similar)?

Furthermore, do you - by chance - know if there is a way of setting the mouse position to that window just as my script does for X11?

Not using this extension – it only has a dbus interface, to be used from shell scripts. (How I manage my terminals might be interesting to you.)

Oh, I totally forgot to close this: I've found https://github.com/G-dH/windows-search-provider in the other thread linked above. It extends the basic Gnome search to include window titles as well. I'll stick with that for the moment.
