lxqt-config-brightness only decreasing brightness

Hello,

I installed lxqt with a fresh install of endeavorOS today. I noticed that both XF86MonBrightnessDown and XF86MonBrightnessUp were decreasing my brightness. I tried both lxqt-config-brightness -i and lxqt-config-brightness --increase in terminal, which both decreased my display's brightness. Issue was not fixed by updating or restarting the system. Issue has persisted since initial installation with no additional configuration.

I am using LXQt version 2.2.0, Qt 6.9.1.

On a Framework 16 laptop.

Using BSPWM as my window manager - no settings for brightness configured via sxhkd.

This is weird. Of course it isn't reproducible here, but I found no reason for it in the code either.

As it's usual in such cases, a piece of info is missing, and for now, I have no idea about what it may be.

Although I don't think that the WM has a role, can you reproduce it in a terminal with another WM?

Video driver? If you try with brighnessctl or other cli tools happens the same?

Another question, whose answer may give us a clue: What happens with -d (--decrease)? Does it decrease the brightness, or does it also have the inverse behavior, i.e., increasing it?

The behavior persists independent of WM it seems - reproduced in openbox. -d also decreases the screen brightness - I'm using the panel widget to graphically increase it, which works.

I have AMD Vulkan drivers installed and up to date.

brighnessctl set +10 appears to work out of the box. I am rebinding to use brightnessctl for now as a workaround.

I am wondering if LXQt is having issues with my display which is contributing to this issue.

I am getting notifications from lxqt-config-monitor when switching BSPWM workspaces, which according to this issue from 2020 means lxqt-config-monitor cannot apply its settings. I see no issues with its configuration however - it is correctly showing a 2560x1600 165Hz internal display.

May be entirely unrelated, of course.

The behavior about -i seems possible if you don't have a file named actual_brightness under /sys/class/DRIVER_NAME/…. Mine is /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/actual_brightness. Can you check that?

What values do actual_brightness, bl_power and max_brightness have?

actual_brightness has 129
bl_power has 0
max_brightness has 255

All is OK. The code looks OK too — and we know that it works fine. I have no other idea for now.

That's ok - the workaround works well. Thank you so much for your time and helping me look into it. Maybe a bit flipped during install or something. I'll post an update if I find anything new.
