What happened to `geocoder-abbreviations`?

I know this probably isn't quite on-topic, but I noticed that the `geocoder-abbreviations` repo seems to have been deleted. Is there any documentation of why that was done? It seems like a very useful library and I don't see many alternatives out there, but I'm hesitant to use it if it's being removed that thoroughly.
