How to completely disable the reader view

I'm not a big fan of the reader renderer used by rss guard, and it also lacks the navigation shortcuts I prefer to use in my browser. How do I completely disable the reader pane? It's quite annoying for it to automatically open articles and mark them as read.

I managed to get a close solution by using View > Switch Layout to get the three vertical panes, View > ShowHide > Message Viewer Toolbars to hide them, and then drag the right hand panel until it disappears. Then you have a two pane view and double clicking on a feed title will open it in your browser

Of course it is not perfect, but your use case is rather unusual

There is an option in the menu man.

Articles -> Enable article preview (uncheck)

and

in the settings

Feeds & articles -> Articles -> Keep article viewer always visible (uncheck)

As for marking as read, there is a setting on the same setting page but on Article list tab.

The article is always marked as read whenever I double-click on it, even when I select 'Only manually'.
