functions produced by D-forward and D-reverse should be able to take functions

This used to work:

```clojure
((D sin) (- identity 10))
```

but now fails, as does the `D-forward` version. We can fix this by allowing functions into tapes. Can we make a function into a scalar more generally? A function that returns a scalar can perform the operations of a scalar.
