Creating dependency from a custom_target

In my project I am building a shared library with the library() function. The library depends on some auto-generated header files. I am generating the headers with custom_target(). What I can't figure out is how I can create a dependency on the custom target.

I tried listing the custom target in the dependency: list but that generated an error that only external or internal dependecies are allowed. I also tried declaring a dependency with target_dep = dependency(auto_gen_target) but that also did not work.

What is the proper way to do this?

Put the results of the custom_target in the sources of the library call. A C header is just the same as a C source file.

OK, that's what I was doing but it just seemed off that a header file is part of sources.
