katex doesn't support label and ref

It's a long standing problem in katex. KaTeX/KaTeX#2003

It doesn't seem to be an easy solution. Is it possible to switch to mathjax for equation support?

Good question. I don't know yet, and currently I don't have enough time to investigate.
