Offer links for donations #11
Comments
It’s not well linked, but donations are currently accepted at BountySource. |
Ah, nice! Please link it. With current events regarding LineageOS and (Libre)Signal, more attention will be coming towards the microg projects. |
What current events? (Asking by curiosity) |
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LineageOS#Version_history and https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=nl&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=https%3A%2F%2Fdecorrespondent.nl%2F5967%2Fstap-jij-ook-vandaag-over-van-whatsapp-naar-signal-privacyweek%2F1779970683348-bc048f6e&edit-text=&act=url and https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=nl&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2Fdecorrespondent%2Fstatus%2F818337926463549441&edit-text=&act=url and FOSDEM 2017 In the Netherlands this has caused a big shift of users from WhatsApp and Telegram to move to Signal. More advanced and FLOSS-aware users also started looking into LibreSignal and hence into NOGAPPS. |
Signal increasing user base doesn’t means a lot for microG IMHO, because there is a wide gap in what switching to Signal (from Telegram/WhatsApp) means vs. what moving from PlayServices to μG does. Also, NOGAPPS doesn’t achieve the same result (regarding Signal only ofc) as what LibreSignal aims to, which is no dependency on Google at all. Of course microG + Signal is still better than PlayServices + Signal, but that’s not what any LibreSignal user would want. And I don’t see the point in LineageOS. They rebranded from CyanogenMod, so what? There isn’t anything new here, right? Don’t get me wrong, I’d love that way more people use μG rather than PlayServices, but I don’t see anything currently that would make this happen. |
This is important to at least confirm the legitimacy of https://salt.bountysource.com/teams/microg Which I couldn't yet confirm. |
Meanwhile, microG receives donations via https://liberapay.com/microG This link has been added to GitHub repos, but is missing from the website. The following PR adds the link to the website and can close this issue #30 |
Please, on teh website, in all microg README.md files on GitHub and in F-Droid app pages, offer links for donations via PayPal, Flattr or other services.
