Sync Issues in Moodle and MS Teams

Hi all

We are using the Microsoft 365 Integration plugin (version 4.3.5) in Moodle 4.3.6. There is a synchronisation issue between Moodle and Microsoft Teams. A specific example:

Course: 2526_QQQ_ABC501-A

• Moodle enrolment: 1,229 students
• Microsoft Teams membership: 881 students
• Discrepancy: 348 students are missing from Teams

Other individual courses (around 500 Moodle Courses) have similar issues. Most students are added successfully, but some fail to be added. As a result, the user membership in the Microsoft 365 group does not match the Moodle course enrolment.

I found a tool called "Re-sync users in Microsoft 365 groups for courses" under "Plugins > Local plugins > Microsoft 365 integration > Advanced > Maintenance Tools"

Can this tool solve the problem?
Is there any risk involved in performing a re-sync?

Can we re-sync members by course one by one ?
Or is there another solution to resolve this issue?

Synchronisation of users between a Moodle course and a Microsoft Team occurs when the Moodle course is connected to the Microsoft Team, and then Microsoft Team membership can change, for example, when Moodle course enrolments are updated. Since this is handled by Moodle event observers, temporary errors in connections to the Graph API or misconfiguration of the Microsoft 365 Integration plugin might have caused some users not to synchronize.

The maintenance tool "Resync users in Microsoft 365 groups for courses" can help solve this problem. However, as the description states: This will ensure all, and only, users enrolled in the Moodle course are in the Microsoft 365 group. If you have added any additional users to a Microsoft 365 Group that are not enrolled in the associated Moodle course, they will be removed.

It should be noted that clicking the "Resync users in Microsoft 365 groups for courses" link will immediately start the synchronization process, and for 500 courses, this could take a long time.

You can test this maintenance tool on test courses. To do so, instead of clicking the link "Resync users in Microsoft 365 groups for courses", simply copy the link to the clipboard and add the "courseid" parameter, where "courseid" is the Moodle ID of the course for which you want to perform the resync. The link will then look like this:

https://{YOUR_MOODLE_URL}/local/o365/acp.php?mode=maintenance_resyncgroupusers&courseid=1234

Hi all,

I’m experiencing the same issue with the Microsoft 365 Integration plugin (v5.0.1) on Moodle 5.0.2 I tried using the “Resync users in Microsoft 365 groups for courses” tool, as suggested, but unfortunately, it did not solve the problem at all.

The enrolled users in Moodle that were missing still do not appear in the corresponding Microsoft Teams group after running the resync. It seems that the tool does not address the underlying cause of the missing users.

Has anyone found a reliable way to resolve this issue, or could you provide guidance on what to check next?

I tried to run "Resync users in Microsoft 365 groups for courses" to resync all courses, but it failed.

If I copy the link to the clipboard and manually add the "courseid" parameter—where "courseid" is the Moodle ID of the course I want to resync—it works. That means I have to perform the resync one course at a time.
Using this method, the update result is displayed. Sometimes, one or two users fail to sync, but at least over 80% of the members are successfully updated in each course.

Now, I'm thinking about how to automate this process, since we have over 500 courses. I'm considering using a script to simulate clicking the link, but I also need a solution to capture the result of each sync attempt.

Is there any error message when you try to resync all courses?

For example, "2526_ABC123" (Pls see the attached image)
Moodle: 35
In Teams: 24
Not in Teams: 11

After ran the URL to update, only 2 users added. That’s meant 8 users aren’t in MS Teams

But there is no any error message
