"open in vscode" button only shows up for main.ts

Describe the bug

on live stream we were in another file, and the 'open in vscode' button wasn't there till we returned to main.ts

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Go to javascript editor
2. add new file
3. open new file, no open in vscode button
4. See error

Expected behavior

whenever in js mode should see button above explorer
