It's actually a known issue #2020 and it's closed, but i want to share my opinion with the dev. @mifi
Please check the closed issue first to quickly recall the context...
As I commented in that issue, this problem is supposed to originate from the mismatch between smart cut generated clips and the original.
For example, a 270 degree rotated mp4 file, usually captured by a mobile device, has a rotation attr in its metadata as sort of post-processing to make the video look horizontal.
In view of the fact that smartcut recodes clips that do not align with keyframe ends, it created a video with 2 orientation included—the recoded clips (horizontal and 0 degree) and the untouched clips (vertical but 270 degree).
However, mp4 only allows one rotation for the whole file, so it's impossible to hold fully correct orientation for the whole video.
Therefore what finally exported is actually mixed orientation.
