Hi!
I would suggest, that the digtron machine is unpacked facing the same direction, as the player was standing relative to the crate when packing. That would be more flexible unpacking in small tunnels.

Rather than make it depend on where the player is standing, how about I add "this side forward" and "this side up" faces to the crate and have the Digtron's orientation depend on the crate's orientation? Feels like that would be more controllable and fit better with the existing ways of controlling the orientation of things (screwdrivers and orientation of blocks on placement).

Also a good idea. The main thing is, having a defined direction when unpacking.

I've started work on a complete rewrite of Digtron, and I'll be taking this issue into account as I do so. I think I'm probably going to be able to obsolete the crate entirely and make it so you can just "pick up" the control node and have the whole Digtron go along with it.

@FaceDeer crates are still useful for few reasons:

  • if controller is in middle of tron it will be harder to place back to world without crate
  • for similar reasons crate is very useful at unloading / loading / recharging stations (yes I've used RE battery powered trons a lot)
  • crate works extremely well as temporary storage for tron in world when you dont pick it up
  • crate can be used to separate and connect storage / fuel / digger arrays to / from tron with few structure nodes (those do not have separate controllers at all as theyre modules for larger tron)
  • in general crate allows a lot more flexible pickup and placement of tron
