Output page ordering for booklets

Hello! I'm making single signature staple bound A6 booklets and currently if you select booklet signature and quarto layout -- it will assume you want to fold it as quarto (outrageous, I know! (: )
But for my single signature booklets it creates a lot of additional work -- after printing and cutting it in two -- I need to sort pages to build the stack before stapling them together in the correct order

Is this something that could be interesting to others too?
Maybe there's a way already and I'm just fumbling around...

Not really! I need to reorder pages to make the booklet...

What I mean -- I can assemble booklet fine, but it requires more than putting one cut stack on top of the other
I need to reorder sheets before stapling

Verified. The page order is wrong when more than 1 sheet per signature is selected for quarto. Single signature is fine, but depending on the book that could be an awful lot of signatures. I would not want to use less than 2 sheets. 3 or 4 would be better.

Hmm could you provide the output you're getting versus the output you want, and the settings you're using? Using the sample pdf with just page numbers might be easiest (or you can generate your own, heh). Screenshots are fine, I'm just having trouble understanding what the desired layout is.

For a 6 sheet signature in quarto(which is the issue that came up on a bookbinder SubReddit recently). Each printed page is listed a a block of four below, note that the numbers in the top row of each page should be (and are) upside down.

EDIT: I forgot to note my printer settings:

flip on short edge duplex printing. That should be the important one, though it should not matter.

Just n case there was an issue withe the short/long edge options, I printed both ways. Neither was as expected. I have to print and fold to see oi the order is correct, it's too abstract for me otherwise.

Here's what I more or less want (page rotation inside sheet is not really important) 24p_a6_numbers-impose-1.pdf

As you can see -- in last example I can stack all papers first, cut them in half, stack one half sheet stack on top of another and bind
With bookbinder output I need to cut them separately or stack alternating half sheets after cutting a stack
