This is a discussion for logging some of the software / service choices we've made for Weird.

At a minimum we want to know what we chose and why we chose it at the time, so that if we need to change later, we'll know why we were there in the first place.

Postmark ( Email Delivery )

For email delivery service we're using Postmark.

Pros:

• It has a good reputation
• It's got one of the highest delivery rates
• We're already using it

Cons:

• It's second tier paid plan is more expensive than alternatives
• It has less of a free plan

The pros for now outweigh the cons and email provider is one of the easiest things to change later.

Polar.sh ( Merchant of Record and Billing )

For billing and merchant of record services, we are using polar.sh.

Pros:

• An open source project
• A small team that we can communicate directly with
• We've already been approved for it

Cons:

• Documentation is a little bit sparse.
• Doesn't let our app manage the user's subscription ( yet )
  • Users will have to login to polar to manage subscriptions which will be annoying, but they're working on fixing it so we can improve the flow later.
