Special pages

We will have at least three special user-pages:

The way we see it, the /about, /ideas, and /now pages on websites each have a different purpose. And all three should be there.

• /about pages are about the past: how people see themselves and what brought them there. That's useful as a general overview.
• /now is a more personal look at what people are doing right now, what they care about, and what they could use help with.
• /ideas should be about the future: the crazy things people always wanted to make, concepts they're mulling over, or planned projects.

About in front

I think the default description field should also be your /about page.

Maybe instead of hard-limiting the length of this page at 512 characters, what happens is anything past that amount will be hidden behind a ‘more’ button on the front page that’ll direct to the full /about page.

The /about page is always there, but doesn’t automatically get its own sidebar link unless you’ve written past the highlight limit.

Page embeds

Any other page could additionally be embedded onto the front page, by default only with its first 512 characters, I.e. the conventional ‘embedded-highlight limit’ of Weird pages.

So if I’ve checked off my Now page as ‘feature on front page’, it’ll show below the About section.

Also a glaring omission imo is /projects, which is a very popular convention on lots of websites.

Haha, /intractable seems like a fun page for developers.

Marking pages as featured seems like a common feature you'd want.

My initial reaction is that I'd prefer not to automate the about page like that. I think I'd most-often want to do a custom split instead of just cutting it off at the 512 marker, and I might not even want my about page to start with my description, because I feel like they're kind of different things for the most part.

That said, I think automatically creating it if you don't have an explicit about page and just putting your description on it might not be a bad idea, just to make sure everybody has an about page.

And I think it'd be a good idea to have on of those, "help you get started" checklist / track things that shows you the common pages that people fill out in their profile, so that it's extra easy to just start filling out your about page, instead of having to manually create a page with the about slug.
