"I made an observing template for the appendix and inserted it into the observing guide. The formatting however is not how I originally made it, so I pushed the observing template (Obsreport_template.txt.rtf) so everyone knows how it is supposed to look like. @MCilento I see that you posted the obsreport template under Observe. What format is .rtf and what application should I use to view it? Also, I originally saved the observing report template as /home/depot/STEPUP/obsreport-template.txt, but I see it is saved differently here. Let's choose one format and stick with it. I have previously referred to it as obsreport-template.txt in the observing guide. (I haven't been able to pull/view the other changes you made generally because I have to have this saved locally before I can.)

When I saved it on my computer it put the .rtf and I wasn't sure why. I can still open it using the LaTeX program on my computer and edit it the same way, so I'm not sure what the .rtf changed about the file. I will go back and just save it as a txt file so everything is consistent with the guide. Would you still like me to put it under observe in GitHub?

I changed the obsreport-template in the Observe folder. The .rtf meant it was a rich text file, and you can still work with those in the same way as plain text files. However, I changed the file to plain text, and formatted the obsreport-template in the guide using LaTeX to change the colors of the text and adjust spacing.

I hope everything is correct now, if there are any discrepancies between what I have uploaded and what we use on the Ptolemy computer or in the observing guide let me know, and I will correct the necessary files.

Alright the template looks pretty good. I didn't look too closely at the rest of the guide but concerning Chapter 5, here are my comments:

• Change the name of the template to "obsreport-template.txt".
• Make sure for each data entry point there is either a description in either Chapter 1 or Chapter 5 explaining where that data can be found.

I added in some periods at the end of each bullet point, regardless of whether it is a complete sentence for consistency's sake.

Let me know if there are any issues. I pushed all of the changes that I made shortly after posting this comment.

@MCilento and I updated the version of obsreport-template.txt on Ptolemy as well as the Observatory computer. On Ptolemy it is "/home/depot/STEPUP/obsreport-template.txt" and on the Observatory computer it is "/STEPUPDataFiles/obsreport-template.txt".

• Change chapter 5 so that it has a completed obsreport with comments in red font explicitly describing what should be included and where that information can be retrieved.
• Add in obsreport-template.txt and sample obsreport an entry place for the date of observation.
