1 I have found that if I put right angle connectors on both SMA connectors, then face the antennas away from each other by BER goes from 1.4% down to zero.

Yes, I also find that SMA ANT affect the bit error rate, so we can try to adjust or change the different quality antenna, the bit error rate is less than 2%, which is normal. This TCXO comes from the United States, the performance stable, only Offset is bigger.

You can try to change the value of RXOffset TXOffset to change the ERR Rate%

2 the mode LEDs don't scan in order, the jump around. Not a big deal, just thought I would mention it.

LED is control by firmware, you can try to upgrade the firmware, but I suggest that the same time using one, mode, after all, to deal with too many tasks, duplex mode not same as simplex, the program will become very busy.

3 I was able to connect a nextion display and am pleased with the results.
Yes, you can use different Nextion firmware, and the Facebook group is very active in https://www.facebook.com/groups/Nextion/

1 Are you planning to add a light for NXDN?
Yes, In next Version, but now I'm trying to modify the firmware to control the replacement of the NXDN LED display.

2 Can I get RSSI from your board? Does it require a different build of the firmware?

RSSI needs new firmware 1.3.3 support, upgrade duplex firmware using my Userguide
Https://github.com/nano-mmdvm/Duplex_hotSPOT

3 Does one of the new Pi-Star flash commands work to update the firmware? Which one and what is the argument?

Yes, with the above question, follow my guidance. At present, the official upgrade firmware methord:
sudo pistar-zumspotflash rpi_duplex is not work in RPi. It looks like it is prepared for USB interface, not for GPIO. Please use my script to upgrade. Https://github.com/nano-mmdvm/Duplex_hotSPOT

Thanks again, I'm having lots of fun with this board...not I have to build a case for it.

Do not forget to share Facebook @Winters_CN TKS again! I and my team, and other HAM are very happy to hear your share.

Best regards, de bi7jta,CN,73!
