After presentation Istio + NSM we get a question on how is fast NSM + Istio.

Now, we need to measure performance of our integration and provide the results

The preliminary results from a kind setup on a packet machine have shown that the native istio multiprimary is a bit faster than the nsm+istio integration.

I have removed cpu limits from forwarders and nse but the istio is still ahead. Also I have checked if iptables rules affects performance by adding 50 sequential rules but the result is the same.

Next steps:

  • get results and compare with a native nsm multicluster
  • debug forwarders connections
