New ask box appearance breaks XInbox #2060
Comments
automatic custom tags seem very niche-use now that blog archives allow sorting by post type. the main feature of XInbox (imo) was the ability to tag asks at all without first publishing/queueing/drafting them first, which the new inbox now provides itself. |
as for inbox search, the same thing can be achieved with the browser's search tool (CTRL+F) to find keywords, performing the scrolling yourself. as for mass inbox editor, the new inbox also allows individual blog inboxes to be cleared completely, rather than the "delete all messages" button only being available for the entire account inbox. given all this, XInbox is very unlikely to ever be revived. |
I mentioned this on tumblr, but "tag by asker name" is one of the most-used XKit features afaik, I think it's probably still good to keep around? |
@nightpool as i understand it, the primary use for that option was to notify the asker that their ask had been answered, since people would track their username's tag; now that ask answering sends an actual notification to the asker in the activity feed, this is unnecessary. also, manipulating the new post editor is still impossible, unless you've got a secret you're not sharing |
new here, so apologies if this is unwelcome, but as an xinbox user i just wanted to chime in to say that i used custom/auto tagging for my own organizational purposes on my blog, not because user tags would notify the senders. i found this open issue because i just realized the feature is broken in the updated inbox and it was very useful to me. if anybody finds a way to fix it, i'll be thrilled |
i'd also really appreciate it if xinbox was fixed. i run a confession blog, and i liked that i could publish asks without putting anything in the answer box. also, being able to edit the tags on asks is really nice. i usually put commentary in the tags, so seeing a spelling error for example and having to rewrite the entire tag is really tedious. i know it's kinda trivial, but these are things i miss about xinbox that just can't be replicated with the default inbox. i hope you'll consider reviving xinbox, if not i completely understand though. |
this wasn't something XInbox provided; you should still be able to do so by putting a space as your "answer" |
Tumblr recently updated their post editor to more closely resemble the mobile app, including how asks are answered in the inbox, and as a result a lot of the features of XInbox, such as automatic custom tags, inbox search, and mass inbox editor are unable to be used.
