In the latest version of Noto Sans Bengali, the vowel sign 'ি' (i-kar) is being stretched when used with wider consonants like 'ল' or conjunct clusters like 'ম্প', 'ষ্ট', etc.
This behavior results in a visual style that does not reflect natural Bengali writing. In native handwriting and most other Bengali fonts, 'ি' remains consistently narrow, regardless of the consonant's width.
This stretched form looks awkward and unnatural to Bengali readers, especially in formal or literary contexts. Older versions of Noto Sans Bengali handled this more elegantly by keeping 'ি' in its proper shape.
Request:
Please consider:
Reverting to the earlier i-kar rendering behavior
Or using contextual forms that preserve the original shape of 'ি' without stretching it
This will greatly improve typographic quality for native Bengali speakers.
