Is it possible to configure or cajole mini.diff into showing the changes between specific commits? Essentially the mini.diff equivalent of git difftool 0123abc…HEAD.

It should be possible in theory. It would require:

• Create new scratch buffer.
• Set its source to gen_source.none(). Like vim.b.minidiff_config = { source = MiniDiff.gen_source.none() }.
• Set buffer text to the text from HEAD.
• Set reference text to the text from 0123abc commit (via set_ref_text()).

If this is something to be used in a more interactive manner (like custom action for applying hunks), creating a [full custom source](possible in theory by creating custom source might be a better solution.

I remember seeing an example of something similar somewhere in issues/discussions, but can not find it. And I am afraid, there are no plans to have something like this built-in.
