Description
This ticket is a request for the Nym project to launch an official PeerTube mirror of your YouTube channel:
Why?
Starting last year, Google begin rate-limiting shared IP addresses. This change made all YouTube video content unavailable to many at-risk users, who protect themselves by using shared IP addresses on the Tor network, VPNs, and Nym. And users at large companies, universities, mesh-networks, etc.
It is therefore not possible for users who currently use VPNs and Tor to be able to learn about Nym via your video content on YouTube.
By creating a free account on a PeerTube instance, many of our target audience (VPN/Tor users) would finally be able to watch our video content.
How?
5 things should be done:
- Create an account on a PeerTube instance. Here's a short list of recommended instances with open registration:
- Enable YouTube sync, so PeerTube will automatically pull your videos from your YouTube channel
-
Update the official nym website with a link to your official PeerTube channel
-
Update your YouTube account's "default video description" to include a link to your PeerTube
Note: this is important because Google still loads the video description for VPN & Tor users -- just the video doesn't load. So this would allow VPN/Tor users who can't watch the video to be able to click the link to watch the video on PeerTube instead
- Change the video description of all your past YouTube videos to link to the PeerTube channel
Or, to make this future-proof in-case you change instances, just setup a redirect for https://nym.com/go/peeertube (same as you do for github in your website footer)
