Cannot resume Paused VM

My computer suffered a hard disk failure in a RAID 1 array (Intel RST, so technically "fake") which resulted in all of the VMs on that disk being Paused due to an I/O timeout.

I was able to resume the interactive one, but the one started by VBoxVMService is now stuck - the -st command says it's Paused, but both -su and -sd fail to do anything.

Running VBoxVmService v6.1 (Kiwi) with VirtualBox 6.1.4 on Windows 8.1 x64.
