Description of project

Open Austin is looking to add a Product Strategy Community of Practice to our monthly lineup of events. Our Communities of Practice are:

  • Career-specific peer-learning circles to talk shop with folks up and down the ladder
  • Learn about the practice in the context of civic tech and public sector work
  • A recruitment ground for our Civic Digital Labs

Description of role

We’re looking for a person to host and plan monthly meetups. Additionally, you’ll have the expertise to speak to the difference between private vs public sector product management.

Your responsibilities:

  • Plan monthly meetups on a 6-mo basis
    • For example: In January, you'll have a list of dates for February, March, April, May, and June. In June, you'll have a list of dates for July, Aug, Sept, and Oct.
    • January, November, and a rotating summer month are skipped to make space for Open Austin's kickoff, summer social, and EOY event.
  • Modify the flyer in Canva (example)
  • Find speakers or host themed talks as-relevant

Host monthly meetups:

  • Maintain communication with the executive director to understand org talking points and Lab’s needs
  • These are 7pm at Cherrywood Coffee near the Mueller area (firm requirement)
    • Events with speakers will be hosted at at an already-selected venue
  • Direct newcomers who want to get further involved to volunteer orientation (firm requirement)
    • The Linktree will always have the next volunteer orientation listed

Timeframe

This role does not need to be urgently filled, but we would like to get the ball rolling on this by July 2026.
