How can I minimize data loss when using kafkareceiver -> otlpexporter?

We are receiving telemetry from kafka and exporting using otlp. How can I configure the collector to stop consuming from kafka if the exporter queue is full and also stop the collector from dropping data if the queue is full? Is setting sending_queue.block_on_overflow in the otlpexporter and message_marking.after in the kafkareceiver enough? I'm having a bit of a hard time understanding the docs.
