Rationale
The ability to codify experiments in the frontend, such as ones created to optimize the registration "funnel" in Authn or to measure engagement in Learner Dashboard, while understandable for certain deployments of Open edX, has no place in the project's codebase, as this kind of modification is both intentionally short-lived and limited in usability by the wider community.
We hereby deprecate not only any such existing experiments in the codebase, but the ability to introduce new ones.
Removal
Experiments will be removed as they are found, initially as part of the frontend-base migration process.
Replacement
No replacements will be developed as part of this deprecation process. Users that have continuing use for an experiment are encouraged to develop it as a frontend plugin.
