(TC_LEARNER_REDWOOD_9) - Progress is not updating and the subsections are not being marked as completed

Steps to Reproduce

1. Login with students credentials (username: student@edly.io / password: student) and the LMS link is: https://teak.demo.edly.io/courses/course-v1:OpenedX+DemoX+DemoCourse/about
2. Completed the units 1, 2 and 3
3. Visit all the links and videos (All the available sections are visited)
4. The icons for the first module turned green with the check mark on it
5. The icons for the second module didn't worked and didn't turn into green after completion and there was no check mark also

Expected Result

1. I complete the content for a unit (examples: read through unit text, watched all videos in a unit, submitted responses for all assessments in a unit)
2. Then the icon to the left of the unit name in the left-sidebar navigation should be updated to a unit-type complete icon

Actual Result

1. The icons to the left of the unit in the left-sidebar navigation is not updated to a unit-type complete icon
2. The issue is happening for a few of the subsections of same nature as attempted before e.g a video page

@bmtcril - I'm assuming this is due to an issue with "completion". From a usability perspective, I'd mark it as medium/high to resolve, but if this is due to an issue with completion, I'm guessing this would require a serious amount of effort to resolve?

@crathbun428 yes this is Completions, but I can't speak to the amount of effort. It may even be acting as expected, one of the reasons we don't like Completions as it stands is that it's hard for the end user to understand the criteria for what marks something "complete". It looks like @BryanttV is looking into it, so I'd wait and see what the results of that investigation are.

Hi everyone! I’ve been investigating this behavior, and it seems like it’s not working as expected. I'm testing in the Demo Course (course-v1:OpenedX+DemoX+DemoCourse)

Based on what is shown in the course itself:

A green check means that all components in a given unit are marked as complete, and if all units are marked as complete, the subsection will be marked as complete, and so on. Completion means something different for each component, but generally:

• If a component is interactive or graded, you'll need to submit a response for it to be considered completed
• If the content is simply HTML, it just has to have loaded for a few seconds
• If the content is a video, you'll need to watch at least 95% of the video for it to be considered complete

The first two units in the "Introduction to the Open edX® platform" section, which are videos, are marked as completed correctly.

The issue starts with the units that follow in the "The Structure of the Open edX® platform" section. Despite viewing the content and playing the available video entirely, it wasn’t marked as completed until I tried several times. Even the unit called Images, despite multiple attempts to view it, was never marked as completed.

It's assumed that if it is just HTML text, viewing it for a few seconds should be marked as completed.

This happens not only in the navigation left sidebar but also in the course outline.

Additionally, I was doing some tests in Sumac with the same course, and the behavior is the same.

@BryanttV - Thank you for added context on this issue. I wanted to follow-up to see if you were triaging this bug or if you had claimed it to resolve the issue? I'm looping @tonybusa in from WGU in the event that you could use engineering support on picking this bug up as I believe that resolving this issue is high on their team's priority list. I'll leave you two to coordinate.
