The following are some recommendations on how the OpenHIE Architecture Specification can be used.

How to use the Specification

User Recommended Uses
Implementation Team
  • Use the Component Specification to help in determining business requirements needed to support software selection or development
  • Use the Workflow Specification to find best practices for data exchange and standards that are recommended
  • Contribute additions and changes based upon experience and needs
Software Development Teams
  • Use the Component Specification to help determining business requirements to consider in developing the software
  • Use the Workflow Specification to find standards to support
  • Contribute additions and changes based upon experience and needs
Ministries of Health
  • Reference the OpenHIE Architecture Specification and version number in architecture standards or requirements documents as appropriate
  • Use the Architecture Specification, the Component Specification and / or the Workflow Specification in designing project or country architecture as appropriate.
  • Contribute additions and changes based upon experience and needs
