An edge device in general is a device that sits at the edge of your network and separates your internal network from external networks like the Internet. EdgePi, by having two Gigabit Ethernet ports, can be placed at the edge of the network where you have your "things" (sensors and devices) in. This "things" network is usually isolated from the Internet for security reasons. By using EdgePi, data from your "things" in this isolated network and also other "things" connected directly to EdgePi using digital/analog inputs or RS-485 ports, can be pushed to the cloud and made available for analysis or alerting. |
