Workflow: Generating Simulation-Ready Maps from OSM for Autoware and AWSIM

Hello,

I wanted to share a custom workflow I developed to generate simulation-ready 3D maps from OpenStreetMap (OSM) for use with Autoware and AWSIM.

This work was recently presented at GEOProcessing 2025, where it received a Best Paper Award, and has since been invited for a journal extension.

The workflow includes:

• OSM → OBJ conversion using OSM2World
• OBJ → PCD point cloud generation using CloudCompare
• Point cloud rotation and alignment using PCL tools via terminal
• Lanelet2 vector map creation using Vector Map Builder
