🌟 MFEM 4.4 Released

Dear MFEM community,

Version 4.4 of MFEM was released on March 21, 2022. Some of the new additions in this release are:

Better solvers

• Support for hypre on AMD GPUs, including the BoomerAMG, AMS and ADS solvers.
• Improved formatting of MFEM's iterative solvers output.
• hipSPARSE support for sparse matrix-vector multiplications.

Meshing improvements

• New TMOP-based methods for hr-adaptivity, interface fitting, and tangential relaxation of high-order meshes.
• Initial support for meshes with pyramidal elements.
• Simpler interface to mesh face information.

Discretization improvements

• General dof transformation to support high order Nedelec basis functions on tetrahedral meshes without reordering.
• GPU-enabled partial and element assembly (PA/EA) support for discontinuous Galerkin methods on nonconforming meshes.
• Support for arbitrary order Nedelec and Raviart-Thomas basis functions on wedge-shaped elements.
• Special Nedelec and Raviart-Thomas basis functions for modeling 3D vector fields in 1D and 2D domains
• Better organization of FiniteElement classes in the new fem/fe/ directory.

And much more

• New and improved integrations with hypre, libCEED, CoDiPack, ParELAG, Gmsh, Conduit Blueprint and Google Benchmark.
• 9 new examples and miniapps, including: two new miniapps with initial support for automatic differentiation and C++ Jupyter notebooks with inline GLVis visualization in the new examples/jupyter/ directory.
• Doxygen documentation for all releases available at docs.mfem.org.
