Airplay vs Airplay 2 and Multiroom in MusicAssistant

I saw that you are working on initial Airplay 2 support. music-assistant/server#2571
I thought Airplay 2 is already implemented. Because Airplay 1 does not support multiroom, but I can use multiroom with Airplay and music assistant.
I am confused.
So two questions:

1. how is MA realizing multiroom with Airplay 1?
2. what are the advantages of implementing Airplay 2?

I am at the moment looking for a new speaker. The questions is, Airplay 2 and maybe Line-In or only Line-In and waiting for the new resolute protocol.
So I want to evaluate if airplay is the correct way for me.
I know a few differences between Airplay 1 and 2, but looking only for music the main difference is multiroom, and this is realized with MA?

MA uses RAOP. That supports sync of players.

AirPlay 2 support will allow streaming to players that don't support RAOP.

Ok, that means for example the Apple TV will be supported?

Can I expect improvements in terms of sound quality? As AirPlay 2 should be able to Play up to 24bit/48khz

In theory it should be supported but the provider is still being developed so I can't confirm or deny at the moment. Same for sound quality, in theory it should be supported but I am not watching the progress of that provider that closely. You will just have to wait until it is completed but note this is not a trivial undertaking so it will take some time unless there is an unexpected break through.
