GSoC 2025 - Seeking Guidance for unified Webpack Dev Tools project

Hi Webpack team and GSoC mentors,

I'm payal, a student interested in contributing to Webpack through GSoC 2025.
I'm particularly excited about the Unified Webpack Dev Tools" project.

I have experience with JavaScript, Node.js, HTML, and CSS - which match the project prerequisites.
I understand the project aims to:

• Extract hot and client logic from webpack-dev-server into webpack-hmr-middleware
• Move logic from webpack-hot-middleware to the new package
• Transform webpack-dev-server into a monorepo structure

I've set up my local development environment and would love to start contributing.

Could the mentors for this project please guide me on:

1. Which parts of the codebase I should focus on first?
2. Any beginner-friendly issues related to webpack-dev-server or hot middleware?
3. Specific resources or documentation I should study for this refactoring?
