Widget designs on smartphone (Samsung A56) vs Playstore showcase widgets

I'm on a mainstream phone, Samsung A56 and would like to use GDH for showing my BG trend - I have a few stupid questions. see screenshot for illustration:

1. The Playstore shows many nice widget layouts but on my phone I only get 1 widget with a glucose-trend (red arrow). How can I activate the Playstore-widgets A and C on my phone?
2. When using the only BG trend widget that I can currently chose on my phone, well - the design looks very different to the Playstore layout (A). I would like the text to be much smaller and the trend graph rather using 2/3 instead of 1/3 of the widget height, see comments in the screenshot. Can this be configured manually? I have not found an option yet, would be great to change this based on user-preference!

Hi,

it depends on the aspect ratio and the screen resolution of the displayvand on the content (with IOB/COB or without). The problem is, that a fixed 3:1 ratio is used for the graph and the other parts depends on this. Such things are hard to handle, as every phone has another resolution....

But I will check, if I can improve the quadratic layout, like in your case.

My Samsung A56 has a 1080x2340px resolution (should be a standard ratio used by 80% of all smartphones?). Why do you say this is a "quadratic layout"? Your S24 designs look pretty much the same like mine :-) - but they are (no offense!) "ugly" for my taste due to much too big text compared to the BG trend. Of course every user has different tastes or different eye-sight capabilities...

The designs shown on the PlayStore (my left picture) look quite nice: It would be great if GDH could have options for the user to configure the main layout-ratios or text size etc. Much appreciated if you could look into this -> widget ratios/text size as an option?

Yes, but each phone has different ppi and the screen grid can changed, which has influence on widgets. So I have to use a variable layout with variable content in combination with auto size of the font.
That is the reason, a setting makes no sense.
But I can try to improve the layout for less content. But you can also use 2 widgets, which may more fits your needs.

The one from playstore also contains IOB and COB, so more content, smaller size. The widgets try to use the biggest size as possible.
And even if I adjust the layout to fit your needs, another user will complaign, that he doesn't like the changed layout 😉

I was already thinking about such a workaround: A small widget for BG/Delta and another which only shows the BG-trend graph (e.g last 6 hours). However, look at my screenshot, middle picture. I don't have a "trend-only" widget - I can only chose the one marked with the red arrow and this has the big text / small graph. I only have the 8 widgets shown in the screenshot and only the last one has the BG-trend. How have you done this? Magic? :-)

PS: I understand that user-configurable text size / widget-ratio may be difficult to implement, but it's 100% sure possible. For example the nice weather app "Weawow" has such a feature, see pic below. There you can change the widget width/height and the font size. Something like this would be great for GDH.

OK - the trick is, I have to reduce the height of the "widget with the red arrow" to 1 block, then the text disappears. However, this is all sub-optimal (too much wasted space, I like to use the available width/height as good as possible), I still hope that you can implement something like "Weawow", see above. Just my wish! Frohe Festtage! :-)

I don't think, I will implement such a setting.
I have enough tasks for at least a year and I really hate the layout stuff.
Instead of such a setting, I provide these different kind of widgets.
And if I ask 3 people, I will get 5 different wishes for the layout 😉

But I will re-check to improve the current layout.
