Purpose of the nfdump -i option

It appears that the nfdump -i option doesn't do anything except print out a new source identifier string to standard output. I haven't seen it work with other options to modify the output, for example, of the summaries, or to work with writing out a new version of the flow data with a new source identifier to a file. That last behavior would be very useful to me. Is there a plan to implement that? If not, is there a way or a plan to integrate the changed source identifier with other flow data output?

The option -i is used to change the ident label in a file. That label is originally set by nfcapd -I …
so nfdump -r file -i ident changes that.
