FR: Recommended Defaults

Would it be possible to get start with a set of recommended defaults that are automatically enabled?

Following that, a 'reset to defaults' would be useful too

Hey @marktrobinson , could you elaborate on what you mean by a set of recommended defaults that are automatically enabled? I think the defaults are mostly rules being off since it is up to the user to decide what they want. There are a few that I can think of that would be recommended, but that is mostly dependent on whether you are syncing between multiple devices or not.

Changing the defaults right now would potentially change behavior for users, so I am not sure that would necessarily be feasible to do. As for a reset to defaults options, I would be fine with that, but there would need to be discussion around what that would mean (especially with regards to you first question).

I was coming at this from a new-user experience angle:

1. Scenario: Someone brand new to Obsidian installs the Linter because they want consistent, tidy notes.
2. Problem: They open the settings and see that almost all rules are turned off. There are dozens of options, and no clear guidance on which ones are most useful to start with. This can feel overwhelming.
3. Idea: Offer a “Recommended Defaults” preset — a strongly opinionated starting configuration that enables a sensible subset of rules.

This wouldn’t replace current defaults (which stay mostly off), but instead be opt-in: something a user can choose when first installing, or when using a “Reset to Defaults” option.

The goal is to help new users quickly see the benefits of the plugin and establish good habits before diving into customisation.

I would definitely be open to a default option, but unfortunately I am not sure which rules should be included. I would assume we could follow what another linter does. But so far we don't have feature parity with the one I have in mind, so that would not necessarily be feasible.
