Auto-maximize when only one window is visible

Hello, when a single window is visible, it is resized to take the whole screen, but it is not maximized. This leads to losing a little bit of available space (eg firefox will display pinned tabs more tightly when maximized). Is there a way to automatically maximize windows when they are alone in the screen? It seems like a reasonable behaviour to me.
