           legend = self.legend(**pyplot_arguments) 
        
           plt.setp(legend.get_texts(), fontsize=8) 
        
           return legend

Is there a specific reason for forcing the legend text size? It seems to work better when we turn that off and use the pyplot argument instead.

ax.set_legend(
...
        fontsize=14,
...    )
