Is it necessary to grant new Android 13 - Granular media permissions to use react-native-document-picker

I have been using react-native-document-picker almost for two years and never granted any permission to use it. But recently in Android 13 following permissions have been introduced,

Images and photos: READ_MEDIA_IMAGES
Videos: READ_MEDIA_VIDEO
Audio files: READ_MEDIA_AUDIO

Even now I am able to pick documents, Images or Audio files from Downloads, Documents, and other app's folders like WhatsappDocuments, whatsappImages, audio files recorded by other apps.

Can some clear me that Do i need to grant Android 13 - Granular media permissions or Can I continue as usual without any permissions?

I worry about it only says MEDIA. does it have no problem with open pdf file? actually I want to open PDF file by documetn-picker in android 13

It's completely unclear if some changes in app are required to properly work on Android 13.
Now looks like the app can access files without any permission and don't ask for those new permissions at all.
Android doc is also frustrating, especially with Note: If your app only needs to access images, photos, and videos, consider using the [photo picker](https://developer.android.com/about/versions/13/features/photopicker) instead of declaring the READ_MEDIA_IMAGES and READ_MEDIA_VIDEO permissions..

Does the app with RN document picker need READ_MEDIA_IMAGES, READ_MEDIA_AUDIO and READ_MEDIA_VIDEO permissions?

Hi, i am wondering about this issue too.
i tried to disable all the permission on android 12 emulator and android 14 emulator, also there was no any promt for asking any permission relative to file picking or read storage. but my app still able to pick files(docx, xlsx, png, txt,...) from Downloads/Documents/...

Previously, we used the @react-native-camera-roll/camera-roll package to retrieve images for our app. However, due to the new Play Store policy, we need to remove the READ_MEDIA_IMAGES permissions across the app. To resolve this issue, we are implementing @react-native-documents/picker to pick images instead.

Is there any issue with this approach? Do we need to request any permissions before picking images, or should we conditionally request READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE for Number(Platform.Version) >= 33?

If we implement this document picker is play store is allow our app without any issue?
