Thanks for trying out brush! I suspect that brush is having difficulty with something in your bashrc or profile.

To help isolate what’s going on, @liiight, could you try running brush with —norc —noprofile to make sure it can run? If there are issues with that, then we may need to dig in a bit to debug what’s going on. If it does run, then the next most helpful step would be to identify which parts of your rc/profile is triggering the issue. Running brush -x should be illuminating but will likely also emit quite a bit to the console.

If you’re willing to try the above, please do post back here so we can work through what’s going on.

running with the flags you mentioned didn't work:

I did have a bunch of crap in my rc file though, so after getting rid of that it seemed to work!

BTW, i was running zsh when i started brush. I now understand that since it's a bash compatbile shell it tried to load my .bashrc, but that wasn't super obvious from the instructions, maybe worth to point that out a bit clearer.

Now that i got it running i'll give it a shot.

Sorry for the confusion -- the command line switches (for norc and noprofile) start with two dashes; I think my previous post got autoformatted and botched them somehow.

Glad to hear you were able to get it to run! We'd still really like to sort out why you previously hit those errors, if you have a moment to share more details. Even if you were happy to trim down your bashrc, it sounds like it contained a valuable compatibility bug.

As for documentation clarity on .bashrc, thanks for the feedback. I think we mention something about that, but it's buried--fair point that we need to present it more clearly and up front. Please feel free to file an issue on it; but either way, we'll look at improving that.
